The Senate on Thursday confirmed Prof Yakubu Mahmood as the chairman of the Independent Electoral Commission (INEC) along with five other national commissioners.
After responding to questions from the lawmakers for close to an hour, Senate President Bukola Saraki put the question to a voice vote and they were unanimous in their vote of aye.
Other commissioners also confirmed by the senate are Mrs. Amina Zakari (Jigawa)–North-West; Dr Antonla Taiye Okoosi (Kogi)–North-central; Alhaji Baba Shettima Arfo (Borno)–North-east; Dr Mohammed Mustafa (Edo)–South-south and Mr Soyebi Adedeji Solomon (Ogun)- South-west.
Last week, President Muhammadu Buhari forwarded the names of the nominees to the senate for confirmation after the council of state had given its approval.
