The Senate, on Wednesday, confirmed the nomination of two ministerial nominees sent to the chamber by President Muhammadu Buhari for legislative confirmation.
The Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki, had at plenary on March 29, 2017, read a letter from Buhari, informing the lawmakers of his nomination of Prof. Stephen Nkani Ocheni (Kogi State) and Mr. Suleiman Zana Hassan (Gombe State) as ministers.
The slots of Kogi and Gombe states in the federal cabinet had been vacant following the death of the Minister of State for Labour, Mr. James Ocholi (SAN), in an accident on March 6, 2016; and the appointment of former Minister of the Environment, Ms Amina Mohammed, as the Deputy Secretary General of the United Nations.
At the confirmation hearing on Wednesday, Hassan and Ocheni were asked various questions bordering on Nigeria’s economy and federalism by the lawmakers.
