South-East Governors’ Forum congratulates Soludo on election victory

The South East Governors Forum has congratulated Prof. Charles Soludo on his election as the next governor of Anambra.

The Soludo defeated 17 other contestants to emerge winner of the Anambra gubernatorial polls held on Nov. 6 but concluded with a supplementary poll on Nov. 9.

The governors in a statement signed by its Chairman, Gov. David Umahi of Ebonyi and made available to NAN on Thursday, also congratulated other contestants in the election.

The governors in the statement, hailed their peaceful conduct during and after the election, noting that God rules the affairs of men.

“We urge Soludo to extend healing and loving hands to all candidates in the election to continue contributing to the state’s progress from where the incumbent governor, Chief Willie Obiano stopped.

“We note that after every election, party politics should be left to political parties while good governance takes the centre stage for the good of the people,” the statement read.

The governors also congratulated Obiano for a successful governorship election in Anambra, noting that God ordained him to finish well.

“Testimonies on the conduct of the election by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) speak greatly of the commission’s performance.

“We are also grateful to the heads of security agencies and their personnel for an excellent performance which unarguable boosted the public confidence in nation’s security system,” the statement read.

The governors also expressed gratitude to all religious, political leaders, traditional rulers, stakeholders among others for their efforts in ensuring a successful election.

“We thank them and the lawyer to the Leader of the Indigenous Peoples of Biafra (IPOB) Mr Nnamdi Kanu for ensuring that the sit-at-home order and threats against the election’s conduct were aborted.

“We believe that with the same spirit, we would work together for a political solution in handling our present situation in south east,” Umahi said.

The governors thanked President Muhammadu Buhari for his efforts and neutrality in the success of the election as it demonstrated that he was a true democrat.

“We wish to inform the president that south east leaders have been working towards an amicable solution to challenges confronting the zone and profer suggestions for possible political solutions,” the statement read. (NAN)
