Tuface, Flavour, Yemi Alade, others dazzle at Abuja music show

From the parade of stars that featured at the Abuja edition of Glo Mega Music Nationwide Tour, Nigeria’s biggest entertainment show packaged by telecom operator, Globacom, it was easy to see why the concert was regarded as the best show held in the federal capital territory in the last decade.

The audience at the Old Parade Ground was treated to an unforgettable night of fun and music by the cream of Nigeria’s music industry,  including Yemi Alade, Korede Bello, Reekado Banks, Runtown, Phyno, Flavour, PSquare and Olamide. Nollywood divas and crowd favourites, Mercy Johnson-Okojie and Juliet Ibrahim, were the show anchors, while Globacom also added glamour to the concert by having Patience Ozokwor (Mama G), Kanayo O. Kanayo, (KOK), and Richard Mofe-Damijo as celebrity guests.

Mama G who spoke at the commencement of the show thanked the audience for the warm and loving reception they accorded her when she was introduced. “Your love is killing me and thank you for loving me so much. It is because of your love I keep doing what I am doing. I just want to thank Glo for doing this show for the people. Glo is made in Nigeria, for Nigeria and by Nigerians”, she declared.

KOK also urged the people to keep supporting Globacom “for the good things the network is doing for our people”. The Nollywood legend re-enacted his trademark grandiloquent disposition as Professor Johnbull, the main character in Globacom’s TV Drama Series, Professor Johnbull: “Tonight, Abuja is on fire. That is what I call paradoxical fire” and the crowd responded by shouting, “Professor Sir!”

Mercy Johnson-Okojie and Juliet Ibrahim had also climbed the stage to dance to Timaya’s track, Ukwu, before welcoming the guests. To the pleasant surprise of many, Mercy demonstrated her drumming skills as she moved over to the konga drum on the stage to beat the drum as Juliet twirled away to the beat.

The music performances were flagged off by Marvin Records music sensation, Korede Bello, who delivered his Butterfly and Mungo Park tracks among others to the delight of the crowd. As he capped off his performance, his mate in the record label, Reekado Banks, came on board for an outstanding show.

Next was Yemi Alade whose delivery was marked by her usual poise and energy. She sang her hit tracks, ‘Pose’ and ‘Ferrari’, amongst others. Dance hall star, Runtown, made it a memorable one as he entertained the crowd with 12 hit songs to mark his 12th show in the tour.

Phyno, Flavour, Tuface, PSquare and Olamide followed in succession, all raising the tempo of the show. Rapper Phyno performed his ‘I Go Chop Your Dollars,’ ‘So Far So Good,’ ‘Financial Woman,’ ‘Fada Fada’ and other hit tracks. He was followed by the Nabania singer, Flavour. The hip hop highlife singer delighted the crowd with his master class performance.

Tuface took over from there with his ‘True Love’ track and asked rhetorically, “Where is my true love in the building?” He added, “but I no dey do that kind thing again” prompting loud cheers and guffaw from the crowd.

The concert was further confirmed as the best entertainment evening in the FCT in a long while when the hugely popular Shakiti Bobo singer, Olamide, and the duo of PSquare provided pure entertainment which left the audience wishing for more.

A major highlight of the night was also the superlative performance of a 14-year old saxophonist, Trump Odi, who stole the show with his peerless instrumental performance of Phyno’s ‘Fada Fada.’ Young Odi, who was among the 13 local acts that opened the show, got a standing ovation as he blew the tune of the hit track through his saxophone while the audience chorused along with him.

There was also another up-and-coming artiste, Olalere Ayobami, who goes by the stage name Hykon. He masterfully replicated Olamide’s performance style of combining Yoruba street jargon with standard English in the delivery of his rap songs.
