The Ogun State Publicity Secretary, All Progressives Congress, Mr. Sola Lawal, has said the party cannot prescribe any sanction yet for the deputy governor, Mr. Segun Adesegun, since he has not formally defected to the Social Democratic Party.
He said the deputy governor, in a telephone interview with our correspondent on Thursday, had not expressly said he had defected to the SDP.
Lawal said, “We are not aware of the moves the deputy governor is making, either to defect to another party or not. At the party level, there is no document to show he has left the All Progressives Congress. All he said in the newspaper report today was that he would be where his leader (Chief Olusegun Osoba) is.
“Even Chief Osoba has not disclosed where he’s going, going by that report. Since he neither responded to the text message sent to him on the issue nor picked his telephone when you called him, I cannot tell you the sanction yet, let us wait until he finally defects.”
The deputy governor was also silent on whether he would resign or not given the alleged injustices he claimed the governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, had meted on him and his office.
While he did not pick the calls made to his telephone line by our correspondent, he responded to the text message sent to him, asking whether he would resign.
“No comments,” the text read.
If at the end of the day the deputy governor finally announces his defection to the SDP, it would be difficult for the State House of Assembly to impeach him.
