Members of the Yobe State House of Assembly on Wednesday dismissed the allegation that they were planning to impeach Governor Ibrahim Gaidam.
The House which resumes its sitting after one month of recess, said it was necessary to clear the air on the allegation that former governor of Borno State, Sen. Ali Modu Sherrif, is mounting pressure on Gaidam to defect to the Peoples Democratic Party or face impeachment.
The House also unanimously endorsed Gaidam as the sole gubernatorial candidature for the 2015 general election on the platform of the All Progressive Congress (APC).
One of the lawmakers, Sirajo Wakil, said it was expedient on the Assembly to make its position clear because “there are allegations that some legislators met in Saudi Arabia during the lesser Hajj and perfected plans to impeach the governor.
He said,” It was also reported that money exchanged hands among our members to facilitate the impeachment. We therefore need to make our position clear to the public that the allegation was false and baseless.”
Wakil moved also moved a motion for a vote of confidence on Governor Gaidam and the House unanimously endorsed the motion.
The speaker, Alhaji Adamu Dala-Dogo, who asked every member to speak for himself, said the APC led House did not find anything wrong with the governor to contemplate impeaching him.
“The entire 24 members of this House are all members of APC, same with the governor. We express satisfaction with the performance of the executive arm of government and will continue to support the governor.” – The Nation.
