The Director General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brig.-Gen. Shuaibu Ibrahim, has advised corps members who intend to embark on journeys after 6 p.m to seek help from military barracks, corps lodges, NYSC state secretariats and palaces.
Ibrahim gave the advice in a virtual address to corps members at the end of their 2021 Batch ‘B’ Stream One orientation course.
He said the scheme was partnering the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) at its national headquarters in Abuja and at the state level.
Ibrahim urged transport unions to provide roadworthy vehicles and other modalities that would ensure accident-free journeys for corps members.
In a statement yesterday in Abuja by the NYSC Director of Press and Public Relations, Mrs. Adenike Adeyemi, the DG admonished corps members not to board vehicles by the roadside. He advised them to go to designated motor parks for their safety.
Ibrahim warned the corps members to be security-conscious and avoid indulging in acts that could endanger their lives.
“All of you must be conscious of your security and you must not put yourselves in harm’s way. You must not travel at night. For those of you going on relocation, you must adhere to this instruction.
“Go to designated motor parks, and under no condition must you board vehicles by the roadside.
“Your parents have invested so much in you and they want returns on their investment. The Federal Government cares for you, the NYSC loves you and we don’t want anything untoward to happen to you,” he said.
The director-general also urged the corps members to sensitise Nigerians on the non-pharmaceutical safety protocols of COVID-19 as they are deployed to their places of primary assignment.
