Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), has offered more insight on why persistent poor quality of GSM service being experience by subscribers in the country has refused to abate.
The Executive Vice Chairman, Mr. Eugene Juwah, made this disclosure in a paper he presented at the second yearly stakeholders conference in Lagos where he listed impediments such as poor power supply, multiple taxation by government at various levels and the vandalization of telecommunications infrastructure of telecommunication service providers, as direct causes of the poor service.
The EVC who was represented by the Director of Public Affairs, Mr. Tony Ojobo, admitted that the recurring challenges that have bedevilled the growing telecommunications sector were the monster making the quality of service to remain poor.
According to him, other challenges include multiple regulations, right of way challenges, and infrastructure deficit, among others.
While admitting that the quality of service currently being experienced is not an acceptable benchmark, he however said NCC has not been complacent in its obligations to ensuring that the quality of service is improved upon.
“Having gone through the rigors of several meetings with operators, it is proper to let the public know that the regulator is not complacent.
“Only the elimination of some or all of these will provide the critical success factors in finally eradicating quality of service challenges,” he stated.
