Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State has been conferred with an
“award of excellence” by the Diocese of Nsukka Anglican Communion for
his contribution to the social and economic development of the state.
The award which the church described as the first such honour it was
conferring, was presented at its thanksgiving service to mark the 2nd
Session of the 8th Synod held at its Saint Paul’s Cathedral, Nsukka,
in Enugu State.
The governor thanked the organizers for the honour bestowed on him and
promised to remain a strong advocate for the growth of Enugu State and
the welfare of its people.
He charged the church to be unrelenting in their prayers as the
country struggles to overcome the current economic recession.
“As a government, we will continue to collaborate with the church
towards the implementation of all government policies and programmes,”
he told the congregation.
Delivering a sermon, the Bishop of Enugu North Diocese of Anglican
Communion, Rt. Rev. Sosthenes Eze, charged the congregation to shun
greed and always remember that decent societies are not created only
by leaders. “We all have our part to play in building a good society,”
he said.
Bishop Eze praised Governor Ugwuanyi for his people-oriented
programmes which, he noted, necessitated the award given to him by the
church and urged him to remain steadfast.
Also speaking on the premise for the award, the Bishop of the
Cathedral Church of Saint Paul, Diocese of Nsukka Anglican Communion,
Rt. Rev. A.E. Agbo (JP), said the church decided to honour Governor
Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi because of his “landmark achievements in the areas of
human development and poverty alleviation” particularly with regard to
society’s less privileged.
Urging other leaders to emulate Governor Ugwuanyi’s humility and
leadership style, Bishop Agbo charged Christian faithful to fear God
in all they do, pointing out that everyone would be judged according
to their deeds.
