Mali yesterday came from behind to beat Tunisia, who topped Nigeria’s group at the on-going African Nations Championships, 2-1 in Kigali to book a historic place at the last four as another west African side, Guinea needed penalty kicks to stop Zambia 5-4.
Abdoulaye Diarra, who emerged Man of the Match, scored the winner on 80 minutes after Aliou Dieng had canceled Mohamed Ali Monser first half opener after the break. An inspired second half performance from Mali served their secret as they snatched victory from the jaws of defeat, and ending the campaign of the Carthage Eagles, winners in 2011.
In the last quarter final match,Guinea, Nigeria’s nemesis in the group state, played out 120 minutes with Zambia but no goals and had to settle for penalties. Goal keeper Abdoul Aziz Keita needed to tuck in his sudden death kick to give his side the semi final ticket.
