The Rivers State Commissioner of Police, Tunde Ogunsakin, on Wednesday, reiterated the Federal government’s mandate to improve peace and security in Rivers State and the Rivers State Police command’s resolve to synergize with stakeholders to properly equip Police stations so as to continue in the fight against crime and criminals.
Ogunsakin stated this during the familiarization tour of some pockets of Obio/Akpor LGA .
The Commissioner gave thumbs up to traditional institutions in the state citing police community relationship and his own rich background of respect for traditions as the driving force of his readiness to utilize the influence that they wield.
COMPOL Ogunsakin continued his quest to unite and give a sense of belonging to indigenes of Rivers state through familiarization tours.
He had earlier in the day visited the newly completed Rumukpakani Police station.
CP Ogunsakin also took time to visit the Obio/Akpor Local Government Council where he reiterated his commitment to stand shoulder to shoulder with all well-meaning indigenes of the state in the fight against crime. He equally expressed the need for co-operation considering the vast size of the Local Government.
The Council Chairman, Prince Timothy Nsirim was extremely overjoyed at the visit and after describing the Police as the council’s biggest friend, conferred on the Police Commissioner the status of Son of Obio/Akpor land.
Meanwhile, CP Ogunsakin has been described as a man with a big heart by the chairman, Rumueme council of chiefs, Chief Larry Nyechie.
Chief Larry was speaking on behalf of His Majesty, the Apiti of Rumueme kingdom, Nye weli O. N. Nsirim (MON).
He stated that the Police chief will leave an indelible print of goodwill in the hearts of the people through the visit.
He gave assurance of the continued cooperation with the Police also expressed appreciation to the CP for his role in motivating his men for effective policing in Rumueme and neighbouring communities.
He said: ‘We are aware that your primary assignment in this state is to protect people and their property and to ensure enforcement of the law… we can authoritatively say that so far, the Police command in River state, and its divisions have not been found wanting in discharging their duties as security agent. ’
He took time to thank Ogunsakin for displaying genuine concerns by visiting the kingdom.
