Men of the Oyo/Osun Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Service made a major seizure of 234 perfectly wrapped and compressed packages of Indian hemp hidden in four massive sacks of used clothing and shoes, by the smuggler.
Customs Area Comptroller for Oyo/Osun Area Command, Mr Richard Oteri, who broke the news to journalists on Saturday said the huge seizure was made at 3.00am on August 1, 2014 on a road in the Ago-Are axis of the Atiba Local Government Area, Oyo State.
“The packages of drugs were concealed in bales of fairly used clothes and shoes. On August 6, 2014, we handed over the seized drugs to the Oyo State Commander, Nigeria Drug Law Enforcement Agency, Mrs Omobolade Faboyede,” he stated.
Oteri said, adding that the seizure was consistent with the resolve of the Nigeria Customs to sustain the anti-smuggling drive of the agency.
According to him, he will ensure that the Oyo/Osun axis free from all illicit goods, which would be harmful to the nation’s health and economy, promising that the Customs would continue to partner with sister agencies in ensuring that the nation’s borders were well protected.
Oteri warned all unpatriotic elements to desist from illegal businesses, adding that all those apprehended would face the full wrath of the law
