Ekiti FA bans Olanlege, others for backing Fayemi

The last might have not been heard of the lingering crisis in the Ekiti Football Association, as it took a dramatic twist last week with the FA boss, Ayo Alabi banning six board members for five years each including Bayo Olanlege who received an indefinite suspension.

The board members who were accused of disloyalty to the cause of the FA leadership included Chief Ariyo Yomi Amos, Mr. J.I Fatukasi, Mr. Ajibewa, Mr. Ibidun Isaac, Mr. Aregbesola, all received five years’ ban each, while Mr. Bayo Olanlege was suspended indefinitely.

In another move, Alabi went ahead to single- handedly select the replacements for the suspended board members including a new Vice chairman. And thus, completely disregarding the rules and regulations guiding such process as clearly stated in the FA’s statute.

Sources disclosed that stakeholders in the Ekiti football community have expressed dismay over the latest development which they described as inimical to the fortunes of the sport in the state.

This latest move by Ayo Alabi, who also doubles as Ekiti state Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, has been described as ‘vindictive and ‘political’.

According to a source, the banned members were being punished for their roles in the recent Ekiti state gubernatorial election.

It could be recalled that Bayo Olanlege who received an indefinite suspension was the general coordinator of the Ekiti Youths In Sports that rallied massive support for Gov-elect Kayode Fayemi at the recent gubernatorial election.
