The Enugu State Executive Council has approved the release of N100m towards boosting security across the state.
Briefing journalists on the outcome of the council meeting, the state’s commissioner for information, Dr. Godwin Udeuhele, said the approval takes immediate effect, noting that the sum would be spent on
the upkeep of members of vigilante associations in various communities and to assist them towards meeting diverse challenges.
The council also approved the state’s participation in some World Bank’s programmes on agriculture and other agro-processing projects aimed at enhancing the welfare of the people.
Udeuhele explained that it was in demonstration of its commitment that the council approved the release of N3,870,000 for the renovation and furnishing of the project offices in Enugu.
Equally approved was a Memorandum of Understanding between IHS Nigeria Ltd, an ICT firm, and the state’s ministry of science and technology for the installation of Internal Building System at the New
Secretariat Complex, Enugu, to increase network connectivity at no financial cost to the state.
“When installed, this will increase the revenue base of the state,” he said, adding that the MoU would be brought back to the council for further deliberation before its final signing.”
The council, he disclosed, has also approved the state government’s acceptance of a $50m World Bank facility for the rehabilitation of Enugu State water infrastructure towards boosting its water supply in the state capital in the first phase, and Nsukka metropolis in the second phase.
Speaking further on the subject, the Enugu State commissioner for water resources, Mr. Charles Egumgbe, said that when accessed, the fund will assist in the total overhaul of the state’s water facilities at two percent interest rate spread over a long period.
