Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State has assured the National Social Safety Net-Coordinating Office (NASSCO) of its determination to partner the federal government towards improving socio-economic and political development in the state.
The governor who was represented by his deputy, Mrs. Cecilia Ezeilo, gave the assurance during a workshop tagged, “Training on Community-based Targeting for Identification of the Poor and Vulnerable”, held at Bridgewater’s Hotel, Enugu.
He urged the participants to take the training seriously given the present economic situation in the country, adding that their entrepreneurial training was designed to equip them with needed skill to become self-employed.
“The programme in addition to other social investment programmes running in the state will no doubt enhance the living standard of the people, especially in the rural areas. Enugu State has carefully, in
line with the stipulated guidelines, selected the six benefiting local governments which include Aninri, Awgu, Igbo-Etiti, Igboeze South, Isi-Uzo and Nkanu East for the pilot phase of the programme using
World Bank poverty map sent to us. These local governments have been approved by the state executive council and all the required team members have been selected accordingly,” he said.

Earlier in his address, the director of NASSCO, Mr. Pakpa Peter, explained that the hospitable nature of the Enugu people will help attain the goal of reducing poverty and the risk faced by the vulnerable.
Mr. Pakpa also added that he is convinced of the governor’s determination to always implement policies and programmes that prioritize the welfare of the masses.
