A socio-political advocacy group under the aegis of Centre for Reform Education Initiative, CREI, yesterday, took a swipe at political detractors of Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi who were behind the recent smear campaign in the media against the state government over the Prado Jeeps allocated to Enugu State House of Assembly members from the government house vehicle pool.
The group in a statement to newsmen signed by its Executive Director, Hon. Chinwe Ugwu, described the antics of the governor’s opponents as immoral, unfounded and a failed calculated attempt to unjustly ridicule the office of the governor, stressing that Ugwuanyi had made personal sacrifices aimed at saving the cost of governance in the state.
They maintained that Governor Ugwuanyi meant well for the state and has discharged the duties of his office diligently with all sense of discipline, prudency, accountability and transparency, adding that their plot has failed as the people of the state are at home with the policy direction of the governor and his humane style of leadership.
The group which revealed that the detractors have concluded plans for more media onslaught, stated that it would not sit down and watch while a few selfish individuals blackmail the governor and his administration over an unfounded allegation which the Labour Unions have retracted and tendered an unreserved apology for.
The Group also frowned at what may be the ulterior motive behind the unscrupulous act embarked upon by these individuals who have allegedly penetrated a segment of the media to mislead the public through falsehood and mischievous undertakings.
Part of the statement reads, “We condemn in its entirety the clandestine moves by some desperate politicians in Enugu State, who have gone out of the range to sponsor unfounded negative publications against our dynamic and people oriented governor. We know these people and the callousness of their ambition to pull down our government for selfish reasons. We call on the public, especially the people of Enugu State to be wary of their evil acts by disregarding such mischievous publications as they are meant to mislead.”
