The Enugu State Executive Council has approved the enrolment of seven hundred and fifty unemployed youths into the sustainable development goals skill acquisition programme.
The spokesman of the council and Commissioner for Information, Dr. Godwin Udeuhele who disclosed this to journalist after its meeting on Wednesday said that the youths to be engaged into the skill acquisition of the programme will make use of the centres already established and equipped in Udenu, Enugu South and Ezeagu local government areas.
It is aimed at reducing unemployment towards training the beneficiaries on hair dressing, aluminum works, fashion designing among other skills with stipends to be paid to them at the end of the training.
Dr. Udeuhele said the council also approved the sum of two million, three hundred and sixty-seven thousand naira for the revitalization of the Star Printing and Publishing Cooperation Enugu towards the repair, purchase, launching of the paper for the vendors and the first week publication and another five hundred and twenty thousand, five hundred naira for the subsequent weeks production.
Equally approved was a Christmas light up charity project for the comfort of Christmas visitors and the indigenes considering the need to light up Enugu in commemoration of the birth of Jesus Christ at Okpara Square Enugu between 12th December 2016 to 12th January, 2017.
According to Dr. Udeuhele, the council had also approved the sum of Sixty-nine million, nine hundred and thirty thousand, seven hundred and twenty-four naira, fifty kobo for the immediate procurement and installation of 800 KVA Generating Set for use by the Enugu State University Teaching Hospital Parklane to avert the problem of incessant power failure in the hospital as well as to enhance the healthcare delivery services of the people.
In addition, the Exco also approved the engagement of three Senior Advocates of Nigeria in the persons of G Offordile Okafor, A.J. Offiah and Anthony I Ani as external Solicitor/Legal Practitioners to handle complex and high profile cases against the government of Enugu state and MDAs.
The Exco’s spokesperson explained that the arrangement, was necessitated by the dearth of competent legal practitioners in the State Ministry of Justice that can handle high profile cases instituted against the government and its MDAs adding that the council also approved appointment of a Consultant for the Board of Internal Revenue (BIR) which he noted “was sequel to the request made by the Chairman of the Board.”
