The Federal Government on Friday directed the Transmission Company of Nigeria to take over all completed transmission lines and commence the immediate distribution of power.
Vice President Namadi Sambo gave the directive while granting audience to the board and supervising management of the TCN and other officials of the power sector at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
A statement by his spokesperson, Umar Sanni, quoted the Vice President as telling the Chairman of the TCN, Ibrahim Waziri, that the government had identified three areas in order to achieve its objective of adequate power supply.
The areas, according to the statement, are financing the power sector; addressing properly the generation, transmission distribution and development of gas infrastructure for gas supply; and the production of hydro-power plants to meet the planned objectives of the vision 2020:20.
“There are a lot of challenges particularly as government is keeping the TCN as a government-owned entity as a new strategy for bringing in Manitoba to manage and transfer technology to our local expertise,” he was quoted as saying.
Sambo assured stakeholders of government’s continued support and partnership towards achieving the set goals.
