The new-look Lekan Salami Stadium in Ibadan, Oyo State will be commissioned by Governor Seyi Makinde Wednesday (today) with top dignitaries expected to grace the ceremony.
The remodelled Lekan Salami Stadium is back exactly one year after the contract was awarded to Peculiar Ultimate Concerns Limited through the Alternative Project Funding Approach.
Former Vice-President Abubakar Atiku, chairman of the South-West Governors’ Forum, Rotimi Akeredolu, Edo State Governor Godwin Obaseki as well as the President of the Nigeria Football Federation, Amaju Pinnick, will join the Governor of Oyo State, Seyi Makinde, to officially unveil the Lekan Salami Sports Complex, Adamasingba, Ibadan.
Other notable Nigerians expected at the event are a former Military Administrator of Oyo State under whose regime the Lekan Salami Stadium was initiated, General David Jemibewon (retd.); a former governor of the state, Chief Rashidi Ladoja and ex-Super Eagles coach, Adegboye Onigbinde.
According to The Special Adviser to Governor Makinde on Culture and Tourism, Ademola Ige, the stadium will be a top revenue-generating source for Oyo State Government as well as providing employment opportunities for the people of the state.
“This is part of the efforts of Governor Seyi Makinde to make Oyo State a tourist destination,” Ige said in a statement.
“So, this sports tourism project is one of the other areas of tourism locations in eco-tourism, natural tourism and food tourism that are well noted around the world, this stadium is situated within the heart of the capital of the State and can be easily located.”
The event will feature a novelty match between ex-3SC players from the 1994 to 1998 set and former Super Eagles players between 1994 and 1996, as well as a friendly match between 3SC and Tabor Sezana, a top Slovenian league side.
Music star Teni, Taye Currency and QDot will also perform live at the unveiling ceremony. – Punch.
