Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu state has formally inaugurated two separate boundary committees with Mrs. Oluchi Ngwu and Mr. Chinedu Ekwueme as its co-chairs.
Performing the ceremony which took place at the council headquarters of Enugu East Local Government Area and Ezeagu Local Government Area,
Governor Ugwuanyi represented by his deputy, Mrs. Cecilia Ezeilo, reiterated his administration’s commitment towards enhancing peaceful co-existence among councils in the state.
The committees’ inauguration, he said, is consistent with his desire to amicably resolve boundary disputes that emanate from local governments and enjoined the committee members to identify disagreements over boundaries with a view to nipping them in the bud.
“Our mission at the local government headquarters is to give impetus to the local government boundary committee which is constitutional through inauguration, so that as a committee at the grassroots, it will henceforth identify boundary-related disputes at their points of brewing and then have them nipped in the bud,” he said.
The governor named the two vice chairmen of the local governments as co-chairs of the committees.
Others include the Supervisory Councilors for Works; the Divisional Police Officer in the local government areas; a representative of the State Security Services in the local governments, Surveyor-General of the state whom, he said, shall be the Chief Resident Surveyor in the local government area; a local government council officer of Nigeria Immigration Service, traditional rulers and other persons knowledgeable in boundary matters.
