The pet project of Enugu State governor’s wife, Ugo’s Touch of Life Foundation (U-TOLF) has awarded scholarships and distributed back-to-school gift items to indigent students and pupils drawn from all the seventeen local government councils of the state.
The items were distributed during the monthly Women Prayer Network meeting organized by Enugu state governor’s wife, Mrs. Monica Ugwuanyi, at Okpara Square, Enugu.
Speaking during the meeting, the co-coordinator of U-TOLF projects in the state, Barr. Onyinyechi Anichukwu, explained that the exercise involved the award of scholarship and free health insurance to one hundred and two indigent students from across the state who have little or no means of furthering their education.
This, she said, was in response to the call by God for Mrs. Ugwuanyi to use the foundation to look after the downtrodden and less privileged in society, noting that the assistance to these set of beneficiaries would come in the form of funding their tuition and other basic school requirements.
She noted that the foundation had within the short period of its existence recorded modest achievements in this direction such as the medical mission it conducted in the seventeen local government areas of Enugu State as well as the hosting of school children to a holiday camp called ‘U-TOLF 2016 Children Vacation Camp’ where they were provided the opportunity to acquire skills in cooking, sewing, making of beads, bags and other crafts that would equip them for the future.
Barr. Anichukwu also advised parents to always encourage their children to acquire quality education in addition to life sustaining skills. She also noted that the second phase of the programme which entails sponsorship of their tertiary education would be initiated in due time.
In a sermon entitled ‘My Condition Can Never Intimidate Me’ delivered at the prayer meeting, Evangelist Benjamin Anyim, urged the women not to allow the prevailing economic conditions affect their traditional roles as pillars of their families.
He showered encomiums on the governor’s wife for her philanthropic activities and her efforts towards improving the lot of Enugu State women and children and urged her not to relent in her good works as God was taking note of every deed.
The high light of the occasion was the presentation of items such as school bags, exercise books, uniforms, and foot wears among others to the beneficiaries by Mrs. Ugwuanyi who urged them to be diligent in their studies and also put the gift items to good use.
