Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State is unhappy over the
deplorable condition of the abandoned multi million-naira
International Conference Centre project in the state which has
suffered in the face of vandalism over the years.
The governor who was conducted round the three conference units of the
centre by Barr. Kenneth Onoh assured that his administration would
ensure that the objectives for which the centre was started would be
duly realized.
When the governor arrived the centre located behind the famous Michael
Okpara Square Monday evening, much rescue work was in progress as
bulldozers and other heavy machineries were deployed to not just to
clear the premise\s overgrown by grass and trees but also to safeguard
it against further vandalism.
The governor in a remark at the centre noted that the Conference
Centre is in the heart of Enugu City, and can attract prospective
investors and make the state a choice investment destination for all.
He ordered that the wall of the centre be painted and the dilapidated
fence be remoulded to prevent further vandalism of the centre.
Earlier, the governor paid an unscheduled visit to Enugu State
Broadcasting Service (ESBS), to get first hand information on how to
give the station a face-lift.
Governor Ugwuanyi who was led by the Managing Director ESBS, Mr Jika
Ato , expressed dissatisfaction over the management of the station.
He noted that the service signals of the station were not reachable in
remote villages especially in Nsukka.
The Governor promised that financial support would be given to
energize the station for efficient and effective service delivery and
also for wider coverage of radio and television transmition .
He used the occasion to inspect some of the offices in the station
which included the studio1,2, and 3, conference room and the control
room in the company of Secretary to the State Government Mr Gabriel
Ajah, his Chief of Staff , Mr Victor Atuonwu , Commissioner for
Information, Mr Godwin Udeuhele among other top government
functionaries
