Stakeholders and members of the Nigerian football community have continued to shower encomiums on Chief Adegboye Onigbinde as he celebrates his 80th birthday.
The National Chairman of Nigeria Football Supporters Club (NFSC), Rev. Samuel Ikpea, in his congratulatory message thanked God for the life of the celebrant.
“We pray God continue to protect and bless him for His grace and the benefit of Nigerian and global football,” Ikpea said.
On his part, Prince Efemena Elutabe, President of Lagos-based nationwide team, Freestan FC, enjoined Nigerians to rise and celebrate Onigbinde for his immense contributions to the development of football in the country.
“We should all rise and celebrate this great man on this occasion. Thank God, he is 80 years old. We should not wait till he dies before we start singing his praises. I pray that God grant him longer life, good heaIth and happiness,” Elutabe prayed.
Nigeria Pillar’s of Sport, Chief Donatus Agu Ejidike, was effusive in praises for the Modakeke High Chief whom he described as ” African football icon”.
” Chief Onigbinde is a very important figure in Nigerian and global football. And we must thank God for keeping alive till this moment.
” Therefore, on behalf of myself, office of the Nigeria Pillar of Sports and the entire sports family, I say a big congratulations to Chief Adegboye Onigbinde. And I pray that Almighty God continue to give him sound health and happy mind,” he added.
Chief Onigbinde, was born March 5,1938 in Modakeke Osun State.
He was also a former FIFA Technical Adviser, CAF Instructor and a two time national team coach.
He is particularly renowned for taking the then youngsters like Vincent Enyeama and Osaze Odemwingie to the world cup in 2002.
