Governor Ibrahim Gaidam has called on Muslims in Yobe State and other parts of the country to imbibe the “reinvigorating and reassuring” lessons of the Eid-El-Kabır festival.
In a statement made available to newsmen in Damaturu by his Special Adviser on Public Affairs and Information, Abduallahi Bego, Gaidam said the Eid-el-Kabir celebration not only symbolizes sacrifice but patience, determination and forgiveness. He said imbibing these lessons will help build a society that is peaceful, respectful and happy and one which is productive and prosperous.
He said, “The act of sacrifice should symbolize our willingness to give up things that are of benefit to us or close to our hearts for the sake of others. We must imbibe from the id-El-Adha the spirit to share with and support our neighbours, the poor and the needy. This will strengthen our collective will to attain and sustain a peaceful and prosperous society.”
The governor also spoke on the need for religious tolerance and mutual respect among Muslims and also between Muslims and followers of other religions, saying Muslims “should always be good to others and show compassion, respect, kindness, love, generosity and faithfulness to all fellow beings.”
On the security challenges in the country, Governor Gaidam reiterated the commitment of his administration to partner with the security agencies to bring about lasting peace.
He called on the people of the state to exercise patience with the ongoing measures being taken by the security agencies and to show more understanding, saying the measures will help restore peace and yield more fruitful results. “Our number one priority is to ensure the security of life and property, and to restore peace and normalcy all across the state,” Gaidam said.
The governor added that despite the challenges, his administration has not reneged on its pledge to improve the living conditions of the people and would remain committed to building a healthier and happier Yobe State.
