The Broadcasting Organisation of Nigeria (BON) on Thursday expressed its readiness to broadcast the 2014 FIFA World Cup scheduled for June 12 to July 13 in Brazil.
The Executive Secretary of the organisation, Mr Olusegun Olaleye, made the declaration in an interview in Abuja.
“While Optima Sports Management International (OSMI) has the transmission marketing right for the competition in the Nigerian territory, the company has also given BON the right to transmit the World Cup,’’ he said.
The executive secretary said, in view of this, all television and radio stations in Nigeria have the right to transmit the competition to the public.
“There is no exclusivity of right. Every station is entitled to transmitting the football World Cup from any part of the country.
“There is nothing like `this is government station’ or `this is the particular station selected for the broadcast of the World Cup’. Every station has the right,” he said.
Olaleye said while BON was not envisaging any technical problem throughout the period of transmission, its technical arm would be ready to take care of any problem if it arises.
He, however, expressed confidence that the organisation would do all within its power to give the public the best of broadcasting regarding the transmission of the FIFA World Cup.
BON and OSMI had on April 4 in Abuja signed a 2014 FIFA World Cup Transmission Agreement.
The agreement was signed by the BON Chairman, Abubakar Jijiwa, and OSMI Group Managing Director, Rotimi Pedro, on behalf of both bodies.
The agreement focused on diverse segments such as broadcast compliance and monitoring, production, logistics, training, presentation, among others.
