Anambra State Governor, Chief Willie Obiano has disclosed the readiness of his wife and First Lady of the state, Mrs. Ebelechukwu Obiano to contest for election into the Anambra4- North Senatorial zone come 2023 general elections.
He also said that Anambra State would by next month March begin to receive the 13 percent derivation fund from the federal government just like other oil-producing states in the country.
According to the Governor, he received a message from the Nigerian Mainstream and downstream pricing and regulatory authority that a total of 10, 940 barrels are being produced in the Anambra oil well to merit the payment of the derivation.
Obiano will hand over on March 17, 2022 to the Governor elect of the state, Prof. Charles Chukwuma Soludo, after his eight years in office under the platform of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA).
The governor’s wife was battle-ready to pull the rug off the feet of the incumbent senator representing the North Senatorial District, Senator Stella Oduah.
Speaking shortly after a media tour of some of his legacy projects across the state with the executive members of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Anambra State Council including members of the Correspondents Chapel, Governor Obiano said he had “done so well for people of the state, I can’t lift my head high and I do not need anybody to tell me about my landmark achievements.”
Obiano in response to what would be his next focus on leaving office as Governor after eight years in office and his thoughts ahead as the case with some governors in the country said, “That’s not my problem now; my wife is going for the Senate, my wife is from Oyi.”
However, with Governor Obiano’s pronouncement about his wife’s ambition for the Senatorial race, it puts to a seal month of speculations about her readiness and commitment to serve the people of the state in the National Assembly
The governor added that the administration had completed 131 roads in addition to West Africa’s first and best Anambra International Passenger and Cargo Airport and the 10, 000 seater International Convention Centre (ICC) as well as several other projects.
He explained that the ICC complex with the state of the art equipment would be commissioned on the 9th of March with a book launch in his name by a close associate as part of programs to mark the successful end of his eight years in office.
Obiano said, “I’m going to rest after my tenure in Anambra State. I do not need to be told that I did well for the Anambra people, because I know I did well too. Sometimes, I’m impolite about this, because I know that I spent many sleepless nights to ensure that I did the many projects I did for Anambra people.”
“My wife is the one who will be going for Senate. She wants to run for Senate to represent the Anambra North people. She is from Oyi Local Government Area, which is in Anambra North.”
Earlier, the governor had conducted journalists to two of his projects, which he described as signature projects. There are the International Conference Center and the Anambra International Cargo and Passenger Airport.”
Obiano added that in two weeks, an international flight from the fleets of Ethiopian Airlines will land at the Anambra international cargo and passenger airport to confirm its international status.
“This will boost agriculture, as most agricultural produce will be easily exported through the Anambra international cargo and passenger airport.”
“If you know me, you will accept that I’m a man associated with class, and you can see a class in all the projects I did for Anambra people. The airport you see there is about the best in sub-Saharan Africa, with some of the best facilities anywhere in the world.”
“In terms of safety, it is the best, and has landing facilities that you can hardly find in any airport in Nigeria,” Obiano said.
