Nigerian midfielder Ogenyi Onazi is set to earn up to €700,000 per season when he eventually extends his contract with Lazio, La Gazzetta dello Sport reports.
The 21-year-old has another two years left on his current deal, but his agent Jonathan Barnet has agreed a contract until June 2018 with the Biancocelesti on behalf of his client. It is reported that the club is taking these measures so as not to lose him on a free transfer.
In the new deal, Lazio is expected to insert a release clause of €10m.
The central midfielder has spent his entire professional career at Stadio Olimpico having joined the club in 2011 and has so far featured in 45 Serie A matches.
After starting all four games for Nigeria at the 2014 World Cup, Onazi needed some time to reach full fitness and he has yet to make his first appearance of the season.
The player has been linked with Liverpool and Everton with reports both sides were showing an interest in signing him in the New Year.
Reports in Italy said Onazi’s agent spent the weekend discussing the future of the players with Lazio directors. The new deal is expected to be signed next week.
