Defections: APC to adopt labour union tactics to win Kwara, Sokoto, Benue

The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, and the National Assembly caucus of the party met in Abuja on Tuesday to further find ways to impeach Senate President Bukola Saraki.

Oshiomhole at the meeting told members to brace up to the impeachment of Saraki.

The APC chairman said that Saraki’s removal was an imminent development because according to him, the party would not allow the Senate President lord himself over the majority party.

He said: “We will impeach Saraki legally and democratically. The only way he can avoid impeachment is to either resign or return to the majority party- even then we will not accept him, he should remain where he is.

“No amount of blackmail or sponsored analysts can stop his removal.”

He also said the threat of a government shut down was imminent as such there was the need for lawmakers on the APC platform should do everybody legally possible to reconvene the National Assembly in order to approve President Muhammadu Buhari’s request for the passage of INEC’s 2019 Elect.”

Besides senators in attendance, members of the House of Representatives loyal to the APC were also present.

Oshiomhole, stated that Saraki was now leading a minority team in.the Senate adding that he cannot continue to preside over the majority, the APC members.

He added that the move by Saraki to approach the court to stop his impeachment will be an exercise in futility because according to him, only the Senate can determine who would lead them.

Oshiomhole said: “In all of these, one thing is clear, the Senate president cannot change the real narrative in the Senate. The minority can have their say, and the majority will have their way at the Senate.

“If they have only 49, and the APC have 56, they will tell us anywhere in the world, where the minority will produce the leaders of the House. We cannot be subjected to a minority rule in Nigeria. Whether Senator Saraki likes it or not he can only take the part of honour by allowing the APC to take its rightful lead of the Senate. If not he would be impeached lawfully and democratically.

“As the governing party, we are committed to leading with example. In everything we do we ensure it is in the provisions of the law, Including the impeachment of Senator Saraki.

“We have very important issues which requires the NASS to deliberate on before the presiding officers hurriedly adjourned the Assembly.

“The issue of obtaining foreign loans, without which the government cannot perform, the virement and the Presidents request for the approval of N242bn for INEC. You must act to actualise these, so that the democracy would not shut down as expected by Saraki. These issues require your serious attention to ensure that government gets the required assistance to provide the dividends of democracy to Nigerians.”

He added that the party will reward the loyal members.

In.the next round of elections.  Senate Majority Leader, Ahmed Lawan, who spoke at the venue insisted that the National Assembly must be reconvened before the Sallah holiday.

He said: “We are insisting that the National Assembly must be reconvened quickly, so that we settle the issues of INEC budget, foreign loans and 2018 budget virement. To do otherwise means sabotaged. If we fail to pass the budget, it will serve the PDP very well, but it could spark a serious constitutional crisis. The country would be shut down.

“I am sure this is a season of regrets because those who have left APC are full of regrets. They are not finding it easy with their new parties.

“Every member here has faced one issue or the other, especially with their state governors. We urge you to intervene very quickly and reconcile all the issues before we go into primary elections.

“We really appreciate your moves so far, and we urge you to carry it to the last. Your word of promise to reward our loyalty to the party. We need ourselves to be together. So we all must accommodate each other.”

Deputy Speaker, Yussuff Lasun and the Majority Leader of the House of Representatives, Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila, also spoke at the even thanked Oshiomhole for assuring the legislators on the high turn over of lawmakers in the National Assembly
