Super Eagles and Napoli striker Victor Osimhen has been nominated for the 2023 Best FIFA Men’s Player of the Year award.
The nominees for the men’s award and other categories were announced on FIFA’s website on Thursday.
Osimhen will battle for the award with the likes of Lionel Messi, Kevin De Bruyne, Erling Haaland, Kylian Mbappe and Ilkay Gundogan.
Others also in the 12-man shortlist are Julian Alvarez, Declan Rice and Bernardo Silva.
Osimhen was as instrumental for Napoli winning the 2022/23 Serie A title, the first for the club since 1990.
He scored 26 goals to help Napoli land their third league title in their history, becoming the first African to win the Golden Boot.
Also, he finished top scorer in the 2023 AFCON qualifiers with 10 goals.
Fans can beginning voting for their favourite players in the various categories.
The fan vote (via FIFA.com) carry a percentage of the overall vote in conjunction with an international jury being comprised of national team captains and coaches and select global journalists.
Meanwhile, the fan voting in all the categories will start today (Thursday,14 September) and will close at midnight on Friday 6 October, 2023.
