Schools in Bucharest, Romania are wooing Nigerian students fleeing to safety from war-torn Ukraine with one-month hostel accommodation in their schools.
This followed a diplomatic arrangement between the Nigerian mission in Bucharest and some of these schools.
The Nigerian Embassy in Bucharest, Romania in a statement shared by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Abuja said:
“The Embassy of the Federal Republic of Nigeria in Bucharest, Romania wishes to notify Nigerian students fleeing the conflict in Ukraine that arrangements have been made with some Universities to provide hostel accommodation for those who wish to explore options and opportunities of furthering their education in Romania (for one month)”.
The statement further added, “Whoever wishes to benefit from this opportunity should send a message to either of the following numbers: +40 749 335 927 or +40 786 091 964”.
Recall that these countries that share a border with Ukraine treated black students fleeing war zone so unfairly that it took diplomatic intervention from Nigeria and South African authorities and their foreign missions in those countries before some of these stranded students were allowed entry into Romania, Poland, and others.
Some critics have said that the school authorities in Romania have seen opportunity in the ongoing war and are taking advantage of it to win over Nigerian students studying in Ukraine.
They alleged that one month is enough time for the school authorities to woo the students to their school, especially with the ongoing war in Ukraine.
