More than 80,000 chicken, 100,000 bags of rice and cash gifts were distributed to the people of Ekiti State last week as part of the stomach infrastructure programme of Governor Ayodele Fayose.
According to a press statement issued by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Mr. Idowu Adelusi, in Ado Ekiti yesterday, people of the state who continued to besiege the Governor’s office in their large numbers as well as those who had theirs delivered to them at their domain were amazed at the milk of kindness of the governor, saying it has been long such gesture was witnessed in the state.
Some elderly beneficiaries who could not hide their joy poured torrents of prayers on the man they referred to as supporter of the common man.
As early as 10 am, the governor alongside some of his aides started distributing the package to the people who kept appearing in droves.
Some of the beneficiaries, including Mr. Jewoola from Ado-Ekiti, Mr. Ife Akinyeye and Mrs. Afolabi Mary noted that the gesture had again reaffirmed the governor as a grassroots man to the core.
They appreciated the governor for putting himself in the shoes of the common man who may find it difficult to prepare sumptuous meal for his family at this festive period.
Others, Mr. Joseph Aneke, Mr Olowookere Joseph and Mrs Rachael Abayomi said the name of Governor Ayo Fayose will go down in history as the only governor so far with a genuine welfare package for the people, saying his type of leader was very rare.
The Governor later moved to the markets in the state with same package for those who could not be available at the Governor’s office saying that all the16 Local Governments in the state have designated centres for the distribution.
In a chat with journalists, the governor said the topmost priority of his administration is the welfare of the people of the state who against all odds returned him to office after eight years in a landslide victory.
He promised to pursue his administration’s welfare programme with all his strength as he could not withstand the people of the state suffering.
According to him, the current financial situation will not deter him from reaching to the people of the state because he had made a covenant with God to ensure that the people are liberated from the shackles of poverty.
When asked why he gave them money, the Governor said, “ they need to buy pepper, salt, maggi, palm oil etc. to cook the chicken.”
Among the beneficiary of the exercise were widows, the aged, pensioners, traders and artisans.
The exercise which began last Thursday, according to the governor, will be on till Christmas Day, adding that Monday be the turn of teachers in the state.
The Governor wished people of the state a joyous celebration with a promise that next year will be far better than this year.
