The Super Eagles look to extend their strong start to the qualification race for Cote d’Ivoire 2024 African Cup of Nations when they face the Djurtus (Wild Dogs) of Guinea-Bissau today at the MKO Abiola Stadium, Abuja.
Nigeria started the campaign for a 20th Africa Cup of Nations appearance by defeating Sierra Leone 2-1 at the same MKO Abiola Stadium and followed up with another strong performance, as Victor Osimhen scored four goals in their 10-0 victory against Sao Tome in Agadir, giving Nigeria its biggest win in football history.
Today, Coach Jose Peseiro will rely on the same Napoli striker, Osimhen, in the attack to ensure Super Eagles victory. Osimhen has been a revelation for Napoli this season, with his goals propelling the club to the top of the Italian top flight, and Nigerians will be hoping he brings that form to the national side once again, knowing that a win over the Djurtus will put Nigeria one step closer to a ticket to Africa’s biggest football showpiece.

Some Super Eagles’ players, who spoke with journalists after their training in Abuja, yesterday, vowed to teach Guinea-Bissau some ‘bitter lessons’ today.
On their part, Guinea-Bissau, who have qualified for the Africa Cup of Nations three times in their history, began their campaign by defeating Sao Tome and Principe 5-1 before drawing 2-2 with Sierra Leone in Conakry.
The Wild Dogs held their last training session in Abuja yesterday afternoon, with a promise to cause an upset against the star-studded Super Eagles in the first-leg Group A match of qualifying for the final stage of the African Cup of Nations.
Meanwhile, the Super Eagles will be relying on Nigerians to continue their massive support, with MTN Nigeria leading the way.
Since the partnership between MTN and the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), which saw the tech giant become the official telecommunications partner of the Super Eagles and other national football teams, MTN has consistently shown its support for the team and will look to do so again in the tie against Guinea-Bissau today. The match will begin at 5.00 p.m.
The game will be broadcast by AIT, DStv, GOtv and StarTimes to Nigerian audience.
