The Acting Governor of Taraba State, Alhjaji Garba Umar, said he has not seeing the ailing Governor Danbaba Suntai since his return from London last month.
The acting governor stated this while feeding questions from journalist during an interactive session with newsmen at the Presidential Lodge in Jalingo.
According to Umar, he was in Abuja to welcome the governor but could not see him as he was tricked by some mischievous persons.
Umar noted that, “he (Suntai) arrived in Abuja airport while I was there waiting to welcome him. However, somebody called me that he was to arrive at the other wing while he had arrived already and by the time I got there, he was already in the car and they just drove past me. I think someone was just trying to be funny.”
The acting governor also denied the allegation that his office issued dud cheques to the tune of N100 million to settle the striking lecturers of the Taraba State University, claiming that the “state has never issued a dud cheque to anyone and does not have course to do so as the state is not broke.”
It was alleged that the state government issued a N100 million cheque to the university to settle the lecturers. The same allegation came from other contractors handling or have handled other projects in the state and are awaiting payment. This development raised concern that the state might be broke.
