Senators from the southern part of Nigeria, yesterday, formed a caucus named ‘Southern Senators Forum’ with Senator Hope Uzodinma (PDP, Imo) as chairman.
The formation of the caucus was announced by the Minority Leader of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio (PDP, Akwa-Ibom) at the end of a meeting attended by senators from the South East, South South and South West geopolitical zones.
Our correspondent reports that the Southern Senators Forum was first introduced at the Fifth Senate when Senator Ken Nnamani was the senate president.
Daily Trust reports that the reincarnation of the caucus is to checkmate the Northern Senators Forum that has been in existence.
Senator Abdullahi Adamu (APC, Nasarawa), a former Governor of Nasarawa State, is the chairman of the northern forum.
Addressing newsmen on the formation of the southern caucus, Senator Akpabio said the forum was formed to advance the course of the southern part of the country.
“We have the Northern Senators Forum. We have not had the Southern Senators Forum, when they take decisions from the North we will also take decisions from the South and from there we have a united voice in order to consolidate on the unity of the country,” he said
