The presidential candidate of All Progressives Congress (APC), General Muhammadu Buhari, and leaders of the party, on Saturday, pleaded with his supporters nationwide to ensure the collection and eventual use of their permanent voter cards if they truly believed in his candidature.
This is just as the APC presidential campaign train campaigned successfully in Ekiti despite flying rumours of attacks on the team and the attendant tension, as the APC candidate and team campaigned in Ado Ekiti.
It was observed that the Commissioner of Police in Ekiti State, Mr. Taiwo Lakanu, himself led patrols beginning from early Saturday morning, to forestall any breakdown of law and order, following accusations between the APC and the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ekiti State, of allegations of attacks on the APC team.
Buhari, on the occasion, appealed that the crowd that trooped out to welcome him should justify their love by voting him and his running mate.
Buhari campaigned amid watertight security mounted by combined team of soldiers, police, SSS, civil defence, immigration, as well as prison officials.
His campaign train had arrived Ado Ekiti at 2.00p.m, but the 8,000 capacity state pavilion was already filled to capacity before noon by a huge crowd of supporters who were singing party slogans.
He told the crowd that he had understudied Nigeria and already formulated a blueprint capable of accelerating the rapid growth of the country.
Corroborating him, national leader of the party, Senator Bola Tinubu, urged members of the party and their supporters to ensure that they the do not only collect their voter cards but must also wait after voting to monitor counting and collation of their votes.
Also addressing the crowd, the trio of national chairman of the party, Chief John Oyegun; former Ekiti State governor, Dr Kayode Fayemi as well as Osun State governor, Mr. Rauf Aregbesola, called on INEC not to grant request of those clamouring for extension of date of the election.
They were unanimous in their appeal to the electoral body to remain an unbiased umpire so as not to repeat what they called “the Ekiti magic.” Tribune
