The National Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) has called of its nationwide strike that grounded the smooth delivery of health services in tertiary hospitals in the country.
The NARD President, Dr John Onyebueze, in a statement on Thursday, said that the National Executive Council of the association took the decision to call of the 10-day strike after a careful consideration of the renegotiated agreement with the Federal Government.
He said,” We met from 6pm in Tuesday to 12:15am, Thursday to review the status of our nationwide strike and the offer from Government in the re-negotiated Memorandum of Terms of Settlement with the Federal Government.
“After due consideration of the efforts by government and progress made in addressing the items on the notice of our ultimatum, and strike, as well as implementing the contents of the re-negotiated MTS, NARD resolved to suspend her 10 days strike, and to re-access situation in two weeks at our AGM in Abuja.
” We sincerely thank the public, press and our families for their support during this period of strike.”
Our correspondent also gathered that the resident doctors called off the strike after the Federal Government began paying some of the arrears it owed them on Tuesday.
It could be recalled that the doctors embarked on the nationwide strike September 4 over the slash and non payment of their salaries and arrears.
