Emir of Kano, Alhaji Muhammadu Sanusi ll, has called on politicians in Kano State to put the bitterness of political wrangling behind them in the interest of developing and harnessing the resources Kano is endowed with.
Speaking at his palace during the formal presentation of his letter of appointment as the new Chancellor of the University of Benin (UNIBEN) by President Goodluck Jonathan at his palace on Monday, Sanusi said what is needed most at the moment is for the political elite in the state to put all animosities behind in the interest of development and progress,
Sunusi said no development could ever be achieved with excessive vendetta adding that everyone had a stake in contributing to the development of Kano stressing that it is fool hardy for one to agree to be wickedly stampeded into endless confrontation.
On his appointment as the newly appointed Chancellor of the University of Benin by the president, the monarch said the University had received his good attention when he was the governor of the Central Bank saying he was behind the construction of the bridge that linked the two campuses of the University.
He however stated that the agitation for the construction of the bridge was mounted dating back to the days when the late Lamido of Adamawa was the Chancellor saying it was a struggle that had taken the authorities of the University four decades to actualize.
He also pledged to shoulder the responsibility bestowed on him with diligence and resoluteness and equanimity stressing that he was appointed on merit to propel the University to greater height.
Presenting the letter of appointment to the emir, the minister of education, Malam Ibrahim Shekarau said the ministry was directed by the president to effect a review of the Chancellorship appointment throughout the federation saying the monarch was carefully selected and given his appointment based on his meritorious record of service.
While describing the monarch as an epitome of leadership who possessed the quality to lead by example, Shekarau said the president was inspired by the belief that the monarch would employ his immense wealth of knowledge and experience in discharging his duty.
