A chieftain of the Conference of Nigeria Political Parties (CNPP) in Enugu State, Chief Mike Onueke has described as unfortunate the current crisis rocking the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Enugu State, stating that such distraction should not be encouraged for the State to continue to enjoy existing peace and stability.
The State Youth Leader of the APC, Mr. Iyke Oloto, was recently reported in the media to have alleged that thugs sponsored by the party’s gubernatorial candidate, Barr Okey Ezea manhandled him and other members of the party at the campaign office of its presidential candidate, General Muhammadu Buhari, (Rtd.), over their demand that money released to the State Chapter of the Party from the campaign headquarters be accounted for.
Reacting to the development, Chief Onueke disclosed that such acts paint a poor portrait of the APC especially their inability to advance the principles of probity and accountability which are fundamental to the growth and sustenance of our democracy.
Onueke said that it was painful to note that Ezea and his cohorts have resorted to the dark days of the era of thuggery in Enugu State, which all genuine democrats in the State had labored tirelessly to eradicate, stating that the APC should desist from any untoward acts that could undermine the existing peace in the State.
Onueke wondered how a party that has been claiming to be fighting corruption should be involved in such a serious scandal in the course of running its affairs saying that it indicated that the party lacked the credibility, vision and political will to govern the state.
He therefore called on the relevant authorities to investigate the allegations of thuggery, political violence and embezzlement leveled against the APC gubernatorial candidate in the State since the matter was a public issue and demanded urgent clarifications.
