The Alumni of the Enugu State University of Science and Technology, ESUT, have commended Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi’s development initiatives anchored on good governance and employment generation, among others.
Speaking during a courtesy visit to one of its members who is incidentally the Commissioner for Science and Technology in Enugu State, Engr. Greg Nnaji, the ESUT Alumni through the president of their National Association, Engr. Larry Mba, expressed satisfaction with the significant impact Governor Ugwuanyi has made in the lives of the citizens in spite of the present economic challenges in the country.
The Alumni while donating twelve units of Lenovo Laptop computers to the ministry for the promotion of science and technology-based programmes, noted that the governor’s interest in good governance and employment generation would go a long way to advance meaningful development in the state.
Engr. Mba stated that ESUT, if given the right support and attention has the capacity to recreate the Silicon Valley experience in the country, considering its high standards of learning and quality of graduates.
He disclosed that the institution had in the past assembled and programmed computers for commercial use as well as produced billing machines for National Electric power Authority, noting that the Association was willing to facilitate the replication of these outstanding technological feats that were once part of the tradition of the university.
In his response, Engr. Nnaji, appreciated the association for the donation and continued support to the present administration, stressing that the spirit behind such generosity and goodwill was borne out of their commitment to excellence and progress.
He said that the Ministry in line with the vision of the governor has continued on the path of excellence by embarking on reform measures that would facilitate the development of science and technology in the state.
As part of the reform measures, Engr. Nnaji revealed that a Technology Innovative Task Team, had been set up to enable the ministry tap into the federal Government budget for the execution of related projects as well as other available opportunities.
He added that plans were at advanced state to set up a Science Technology Advisory Council that will organize the first Technology Summit on rapid development of the sector, adding that the state government also plans to establish factories in the three senatorial zones of the state for the production of smokeless coal Brickets for domestic and industrial cooking.
