The Chairman of the Caretaker Committee of Igbo-Etiti Local Government Area, Enugu State, Hon. Malachy Agbo, on Tuesday, welcomed eight new members of the Committee at the Council Headquarters in Ogbede.
The eight new appointees were sworn into office by the Chief Magistrate, Ogbede Magistrate Court, Mrs. Apolonia Ngozi Ede-Ani, after their appointments were approved by the State Governor, Hon. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi.
The Chairman, Malachy Agbo and the Vice Chairman, Patrick Nwodo, had been sworn-in by Governor Ugwuanyi in January at the Government House, Enugu.
The new appointees include: Hon. Hyginus Onu, Special Duties; Hon. (Dr) Chijioke Aniaku, Health and Environment; Hon. (Engr) Alfred Ugwu, Works; and Hon. Edwin Ugwu Idogwu, Finance.
Others are: Hon. (Mrs) Amuche Nnamani, Education / Gender and Social Welfare; Hon. Venatus Ogbuenyi, Youths and Sports; Hon. Eugene Ngwu, Agriculture; and Hon. Moses Agudiegwu, Secretary.
Speaking at the ceremony, Hon. Agbo congratulated the new committee members and charged them to immediately hit the ground running in service of the people.
Agbo noted that the appointment of the new members was timely in view of the skills and expertise they would bring to bear on the administration to enable it deliver on its promises and expectations of the citizenry.
The council boss stated that local government administration provided a veritable platform for all committee members to showcase extra-ordinary efforts and commitment to governance, adding that meaning achievements would only be possible through a collective sense of responsibility.
“We can now say it is time to work as a team towards improving the lives of our good people. We are here to work and deliver democratic dividends to our people. The present economic situation in the country is challenging and it requires creativity and sacrifice at all levels”, Agbo said.
Hon. Agbo also called on the people to support the local government administration and invited them to always avail him and his team of their good advice.
He thanked the Governor Ugwuanyi for founding the team worthy to lead Igbo-Etiti and pledged their readiness to improve the fortunes of the council.
Earlier in his vote of thanks, Hon. Agudiegwu thanked the Chairman for the exemplary leadership he has introduced in the council since his assumption of office, urging his fellow committee members to show commitment and dedication to their duties.
Agudiegwu thanked the governor and the people of the local government for the confidence reposed in them and pledged their readiness to support the government in the transformation of the state and Igbo-Etiti Local Government Area in particular.
The event was witnessed by traditional rulers, politicians and other dignitaries as well as council staff and members of the public.
