The Imo Traditional Council have unanimously endorsed that candidature of President Goodluck Jonathan in the February presidential election as they assured him of their votes.
The Obi of Obinugwu, Eze Cletus Ilomuany I, assured the President when he and his campaign delegation paid a courtesy to his Place in the State capital that they have collected their Permanent Voters Card which will used to vote for him.
“Is when you return that they will know your worth. We are going to give you the royal blessings and the oldest traditional ruler is here and will give you the royal blessings”, he said.
In the short ceremony, President Jonathan pledged that his administration will do their best to assist in the development of the state.
He thanked the traditional rulers for their support in 2011 polls and appealed for all PDP candidates in next month’s general elections.
“I consider myself to be an Igbo person, so I plead with you, endeavour to vote myself, Namadi Sambo and Emeka Ihahedio and other candidates in next month’s general elections”, he said.
In his remarks, the PDP gubernatorial candidate, Ihahedio said Imo people particularly the traditional rulers have done a great job in mobilising their subjects to register and obtain their PVCS.
At the Assumpta Catholic Cathdral in Owerri, Arch Bishop Anthony Obinna, the Catholic Arch Bishop of Owerri Arc Diocese, led a college of Bishops to pray for upright, accurate and impartial voting and announcement of election results in Nigeria.
The Arch Bishop said God has free Nigeria from the stragnule hold of military rule but expressed regrets that irregularities, violence and bloodshed had marred previous elections in the country.
He also offered specific prayers for the election umpire INEC, “put your own spirit the spirit of truth and peace within us all – INEC organisers of the elections, candidates seeking for votes, voters themselves, those who count and record the voters and the eventual announcers of the election results.
