Ekiti State Governor, Mr Ayodele Fayose yesterday said that President Goodluck Jonathan has the prerogative power to ask the chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, Prof Attahiru Jega to proceed on terminal leave, saying members of All Progressive Congress, APC, who are opposed to this have their own agenda.
Fayose who described the rantings of APC and their sympathizers as mere comedy, advised them to stop acting as if Nigeria belongs to the party.
According to a statement issued in Ado Ekiti yesterday and signed by his Special Assistant on Public Communications and New Media, Lere Olayinka, the governor said that “removal of Jega and any other appointee of the Federal Government was a prerogative of the president, which no one can question, provided laid down rules are followed.”
“President Goodluck Jonathan can sack Jega if he wishes and if he does, heavens will not fall…It is on record that Prof Maurice Iwu was asked to proceed on terminal leave two months to the end of his tenure Is Jega not a beneficiary of Iwu’s removal? So if Iwu was asked to go on terminal leave before the expiration of his tenure for Jega to assume office, what difference does it make if Jega too is asked to proceed on terminal leave before the expiration of his tenure?” he said.
Fayose who condemned members of APC for turning themselves into defender of the INEC boss, urged Nigerians to watch their antics. – Vanguard.
It is surprising how APC has suddenly become a stout defender and advocate of the INEC boss. If Mr. President in his wisdom thinks Jega should go on terminal leave, so be it, as long as he follows the rules. The President still calls the shots any day. No one can take that away from him no matter how anybody shouts hoarse.
A man does a good job and he gets sacked? And you expect such evil to go unanswered? There are still men of goodwill in this country. The PDP government approved use of pvc and card reader, but these have suddenly become untenable because it will remove the capacity of the rogues ruling Nigeria to rig elections. The President said he will use technology to fight corruption, but when it comes to the election, technology that will stop rigging is now unacceptable, therefore Jega must go. East assured that the road the a president and his gang are preparing he will ride on it to Golgotha if he does not do right. There is the law of Karma, retributive justice cannot be escaped from.
