The office of the Accountant General of the Federation has insisted that the former AGF, Mr. Jonah Otunla, retired honourably after a meritorious service and was not sacked as was erroneously reported by a section of the media.
In a statement issued by the Deputy Director Press of the office of the Accountant-General of the Federation, Mrs. Kenechikwu Offie and obtained by our correspondent, it said the former AGF “retired at the age of sixty years , following his 60th birthday on 12th June 2015 and as required by the Civil service provisions.”
“Due to the vital operations of Government , the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation Mr Danladi Kifasi CFR, mni informed the office that His Excellency, President Muhammadu Buhari had approved the appointment of Mr M.K Dikwa, the Director Funds to act as the Accountant-General until a substantive Accountant-General is appointed.”
“It is disheartening to read a false information  about the purported removal from office  of Mr Jonah Otunla by Mr President  in the newspapers.

“There was no  time the office was under investigation and the office equally never informed the media of any removal from office of its headship except on account of retirement upon the attainment of the mandatory age of sixty years by the former Accountant-General of the Federation Mr Jonah Otunla on 12th June, 2015,” the statement said.

Meanwhile, the Chairman of Civil Service Commission, Dns. Ayo has commended the outgoing Accountant-General of the Federation, Mr. Jonah Ogunniyi Otunla FCA, OFR for being a diligent and dedicated and intelligent hard working officer throughout his tenure in office.
She said this at the Thanksgiving Service to commemorate his 60th Birthday and celebrate his retirement organised in his honour at the First Baptist Church, Garki, Abuja recently on 12th June 2015.
She appreciate his determination to make remarkable difference wherever he found himself just as he did while he was the Accountant-General of his home State, Oyo State.  She called on the youths to emulate him and prayed that God will take him to much higher ground in the service of our beloved country.
Also speaking during the testimony session at the First Baptist thanksgiving service , the Deputy Governor CBN  Mrs. Sarah Alade, espoused Mr Otunla’s quality as a dodged fighter in his believe and struggle to put things right , citing that, since he (Otunla) joined the CBN board in July 2011, he has, by virtue of his office/position brought on several improvements in the financial management of Nigeria’s economy.
She sees him as a dedicated and hard working man who does not interfere in other people’s duties but asserted that his own work and duties were carried out carefully, dutifully and throughly.  She prayed that this should be the beginning of more successes for the retiring Accountant-General of the Federation Mr Jonah Otunla.

Former Accountant-General of the Federation, Mr. Naiyeju while giving his Testimony about Otunla said he has no regret bringing him to the Federal Level from the State after he discovered his brilliance on the floor of FAAC when Otunla was still in the State as a State Accountant-General.
He said that though Otunla is going on retirement, his brilliance would still be tapped for further use to develop the country.

The representative of his Community and the immediate past National Examination Council of Nigeria(NECO) Director of Finance,  Mr.Ishola Teju described him as an accommodating, all round developer who makes it his duty to encourage and improve others to become achievers like him.
He expressed that the community is eagerly awaiting his return so that he can now serve them in a greater capacity.

Among the numerous other dignitaries that eulogised and appreciated the former Accountant- General at the occasion include, Former Deputy Governor of Oyo State, Mr. Iyiola Oladokun, Rev. Israel Akanji, Mr. Simeon Adewale, Mr. Oluwole Oladokun a retired Permanent Secretary in Oyo State as well as the wife and Children of the Celebrant.
Also in attendance were some staff and Directors from the Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation
