Following the directive of President Muhammadu Buhari to all Ministries, Departments and Agencies on the Treasury Single Account, the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has moved to the Central Bank of Nigeria’s payment gateway, Remita.
In a notice to all stakeholders in the communication industry on Tuesday, the regulatory agency said Remita provides NCC stakeholders up to six channels to make payment for services promptly.
The notice said, “Further to the presidential directive that all Federal Government agencies should commence full implementation of Treasury Single Account with effect from 15th September 2015, NCC hereby informs all stakeholders that it now collects payments through the CBN payment gateway.”
According to NCC, any stakeholder paying for services rendered by the commission is required to go to the CBN payment site to generate a Remita Retrieval Reference – a unique payment reference for the transaction.
Then the Remita Retrieval Reference is presented at any payment channel chosen by the payer. The channel could be a branch of a bank or an electronic channel.
President Buhari had given all MDAs a September 15 deadline to comply with the Treasury Single Account directive.
The directive required all MDAs to pay all revenues and monies accruing to the government into a Federal Sub-Treasury account maintained by CBN.
The Office of the Accountant General of the Federation disclosed that at the expiration of the deadline, 600 MDAs had complied with the directive while 300 were unable to meet the deadline.
