Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State, Thursday night, announced the appointment of Mr. Gabriel Chukwubuikem Ajah as the Secretary to the State Government.
Governor Ugwuanyi, who disclosed this at a parley with journalists at the Enugu Government House, also announced Mr. Uwakwe Abugu as his Chief Press Secretary and Mr. Louis Amoke as his Senior Special Assistant, SSA, on Media, while Mr. Sylvanus Onoyima will serve as his Special Adviser on Due Process.
Until his appointment, Abugu was the South-East Bureau Chief of the New Telegraph. Amoke, who is also a journalist by training served as an aide to the former immediate past chairman of the PDP in Enugu State, Engr. Vita Abba.
All the appointments, according to the Governor, are with immediate effect.
Speaking on a wide range of issues, bordering on his commitment to bring rapid development across the State, Ugwuanyi called for a partnership with the media and all other stakeholders.
He said that the list of Commissioners was ready and would soon be presented to the State Assembly for confirmation while Heads of all government Parastatals had been directed to conclude their handover today (Friday) to pave the way for the appointment of new ones.
On the re-election of Senator Ike Ekweremadu as the Deputy Senate President, the Governor while describing it as a victory for the entire Enugu State said, “I’m excited; I’m happy”.
He further stated that plan was at advanced stage to inaugurate the Elders’ Council, which he said, would be a platform for his government to tap wealth of experience from former governors and other elders in the State.
Governor Ugwuanyi also announced his plan to constitute an Economic Advisory team to serve as a think-tank and advisory body on economic issues to ensure the progress of the government.
Urging the people of the state to continue to support his government to enable it deliver on its promises, the governor said: “We are running an inclusive government, everybody is our friend and the time of politics is over. We are going to leverage on the peace we enjoy here which is anchored on the Holy Spirit to better the lives of our people.
“The tradition of the new governor fighting the former will not happen again in Enugu State and we must do everything possible to ensure that peace reign in Enugu State to enable us make progress.”
