The Enugu North Senatorial Zone of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Enugu State, has endorsed the state governor, His Excellency, Rt. Hon. (Dr) Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, for a second term in office.

The overwhelming endorsement took place during the zonal meeting of the party which turned to a rally given the mammoth crowd that attended the event which was held at Ogbede, the council headquarters of Igbo-Etiti Local Government Area.

In a motion moved by the Barr Chidi Aroh, Commissioner for Enugu Capital Territory, after speaking eloquently on the monumental achievements of the Governor in the state under two years, His Excellency, Chief Okechukwu Itanyi, the former Deputy Governor of Enugu State, seconded his motion which members responded in a thunderous “Yes”.

Speaking at the event, the Chairman of Igbo-Etiti Local Government Area and chief host of the event, Hon. Malachy Agbo, extolled the virtues of the governor and recounted some of his  achievements in office that deservedly qualified him for another term to serve Ndi Enugu.

He said “our governor has been marvelous in office. We have gathered here today not just affirm that but to also speak with one loud voice that we are solidly behind him. We are therefore saying we will continue to support him to ensure that we all return him to the Lion Building come 2019”.

Speaking to the crowd of party faithful who thronged the venue in their numbers, the former National Chairman and former Governor of old Enugu State, Dr. Okwesilieze Nwodo, thanked God for listening to the people by bringing the leader they had asked of Him.

He pointed out some of the governor’s achievements and posited that since Ugwuanyi was a performer it was only natural he went on to complete a well-deserved second tenure.

He said “In celebrating the governor’s accomplishments, we need to note the fairness and equity that is also the hallmark of this administration in the way he distributes even development and appointments across the state”.

Similarly the member representing Igbo-Etiti/Uzo-Uwani Federal Constituency in the National Assembly, Hon. Princess Stella Ngwu, praised the governor and commended him for his good works and for also putting the state in the hands of God.

On his part, the Senator representing Enugu North Senatorial Zone, Senator Chukwuka Utazi, who also represented the governor at the rally, thanked the people for coming and appreciated the people of Igbo-Etiti especially for the positive agenda they always set for the Enugu North Senatorial Zone and Enugu State, in initiating and sustaining the spirit of support extended to the government, the governor and the party in the state.

Senator Utazi said, “Of course the Governor and the party are expressing joy at the overwhelming support our governor and the party are getting from the people of Enugu North Senatorial District. The Governor has already been informed of your endorsement and has therefore asked me to extend his appreciation to all of you and also promised never to let you the people down. Thank you and God bless you”.

Among dignitaries at the event were Rt. Hon Patrick Asadu; member Federal House of Representatives;  Igbo-Eze South/Nsukka, Hon James Akadu and Hon Ugo Ezeani, both representing Igbo-Etiti at the State House of Assembly,  Professor Uchenna Eze, Commissioner for Education; Hon. Mrs. Eucheria Offor, Commissioner for Finance; Mrs Mabel Agbo; SPA and State Focal Person on SDGs, Gen Fred Eze Rtd, SPA to the governor on Security.

Others included heads of agencies and parastatals, local government chairmen, PDP zonal,  local government and wards officials, and other prominent party chieftains.
