Relief has finally come the way of parents from Rivers State whose children are final year students studying on government scholarships in various tertiary institutions abroad.
This was as the state governor, Chief Nyesom Wike, has ordered the immediate release of N512 million to offset the debts owed by the affected students to enable them sit for their final examination and eventually graduate.
The governor had earlier on, paid a sum of N200 million as part of the money owed by the students bringing the total sum paid by the Wike-led administration to N712 million.
This was contained in a statement signed by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Media and Publicity, Sir Opunabo Inko-Tariah and made available to newsmen in Port Harcourt, on Tuesday.
The students were sent overseas to study under a special scholarship programme instituted by the former Governor Rotimi Amaechi, through the Rivers State Sustainable Development Agency (RSSDA).
However, they were abandoned and left stranded, both by the state government and the agency on the ground that there was no money to continue to fund their education.
