President Muhammadu Buhari has approved that the Governing Councils of federal universities be exempted from the dissolution of boards of federal parastatals, agencies, institutions and government-owned companies.
The President had on July 16, 2015 announced the dissolution of such boards and this would have also affected the governing councils of federal universities.
Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to the President, Femi Adesina, in a statement yesterday said for the time being, the governing boards are not affected by the dissolution directive.
The statement said all vice-chancellors of federal universities had been informed of this exemption through a circular issued by the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Mr. Danladi Kifasi.
The earlier announcement of the presidency would have affected about 12 federal universities and four new polytechnics and board of the National Library where former President Goodluck Jonathan appointed chairmen of their governing councils before leaving office.
Some of the universities and polytechnics are the Federal University Lokoja, Federal University Lafia, Federal University Kashere, Federal University Dutse and Federal University Gashua.
Others are Federal University, Wukari, Federal University, Dutsin-Ma, Federal University, Ndufu- Alike, Federal University, Oye-Ekiti, Federal University, Otuoke, Federal University, Birinin- Kebbi, Federal University, Gusau, Federal Polytechnic of Oil and Gas, Bonny, Federal Polytechnic, Ile- Oluji, Federal Polytechnic, Ukana and National Instiitute of Construction Technology, Uromi.
