The strike action embarked upon by the Enugu state Judiciary staff
Union for six months now has been called off.
Speaking to Enugu State Government House Correspondents, after the leadership of the union’s four hour-discussion with Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi at the Government House, Enugu, the Chairman of the Union, Comrade Chinedu Mba called on all members to resume work today, Thursday, 9th of July, 2015.
In his words, “The strike action embarked by the Judiciary Staff Union
Enugu State is hereby suspended. I am calling on workers to resume
work immediately”.
The chairman thanked God that after having discussion with His
Excellency for the past four hours on the way forward to resolve the
issue between the state government and the judiciary that they have
successfully achieved their aim.
He noted that the governor has agreed to abide by the terms of
agreement earlier signed by the immediate past administration and the
union and the governor promised that if the economy improves, he
would pay us the Consolidated Judiciary salary Structure (CONDUS).
He added that the union would have another meeting with the governor
by December.
He noted that after the meeting with the governor that they conferred with the National President of the Union who directed that the strike should be suspended immediately. He, therefore, emphasized that the strike embarked by the Judiciary staff Union of Enugu State “is hereby suspended”.
He used the opportunity to call on the workers of the union to resume
work immediately and to attend congress meeting on Friday unfailingly
for briefing adding that the strike is “hereby suspended” describing
Governor Ugwuanyi as a man who is down to earth.
Victor Emeribe, the state Solicitor General/Permanent Secretary,
Ministry of Justice, Enugu said that as a lawyer, the agreement is a
welcome development, you can imagine for the past six months we have
not been going to court except perhaps for federal high court, Court
of appeal and perhaps supreme courts here in Enugu have been on strike
but thank God we have a very fruitful discussion, and I thank His Excellency so much.
