The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has said that it has requested for access to conduct drugs integrity tests for politicians seeking political offices in the country.
Chairman of the agency, Brig Gen Buba Marwa (rtd) made this known during an event in Abuja on Wednesday.
According to Marwa, a letter had been sent to the Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Abdullahi Adamu, seeking access to conduct drug tests on all aspirants vying for different politicial posts in the 2023 General Elections.
Marwa explained that the tests would be conducted before the party primaries.
He stated further that a letter would also be written to the Peoples Democratic Party, seeking access on same request.
Explaining the reason behind this action, Marwa said that the drug test is “neccessary to ensure that politicians vested with important national offices do not use budgetary allocations to fend for drug habits instead of providing needed services for the masses.”
The Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo; APC National Leader, Bola Tinubu; Ministers Rotimi Amaechi and Chris Ngige; Senators Ibikunle Amosun and Rochas Okorocha are some of the politicians vying for the office of the Presidency under the platform of the ruling party.
